In 2005, floodwaters flowed down the driveway and into the garage of this Lower Makefield, PA home, damaging the basement, laundry and family rooms and costing the homeowners more than $20,000. To prevent this from happening again, we built brick-and-mortar planters and a pair of aluminum panels which could be fitted snugly between them when floodwaters threatened. When the floods of July 2006 came, only a thin layer of water slipped 4 feet into the garage.
